This is one of my most recent paintings that I have done. Lately I have been really enjoying starting a painting with no idea of the direction, no subject matter in mind and just seeing where it goes.
With this painting I started by applying paint and a variety of texture making materials such as cheesecloth, tissue paper, molding paste with stencilling as well as tin foil. Eventually the shapes of the elephants emerged, the eyes were even already there! The colour and the fact that not everything is completely defined reminded me of nighttime and the glimpses of shapes that we are able to see that come in and out of focus under the moonlight.
