This past month’s workshop at Halton Women’s Place focused on collage, and the women all did a fantastic job once again creating colourful, creative and sometimes three dimensional art that literally pops off the page!
A variety of tools were used such as tissue paper, construction paper, magazines, stamps, markers and paint. The women were given a basic idea on creating a shape using the collage papers and paint but were also encouraged to create whatever they felt like creating even if it was more abstract in nature. The main focus was to relax, have fun and play with the materials provided. The artwork they created was colourful, fun and really creative with almost all of them having a sense of what they wanted to do right from the start.
Here are some samples of their work:
The monthly art classes at Halton Women’s Place are part of the Oakville Art Society’s Community Outreach Program, which provides lessons with materials for free to groups in need in the area. Other groups that have benefited from the Program include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton, SOAAR (Adults with Autism and Developmental Disabilities), Nelson Youth Group and soon Kerr Street Ministries.
