It was quite wintery last week as we painted these watercolour paintings cozily tucked inside the beautiful Craft Kitchen at Amica at Oakville Seniors Residence.
The residents have asked to do landscapes in watercolour and for our second class I choose this beautiful winter sunset demo inspired by Sterling Edwards and his gorgeous book, Creating Luminous Watercolor Landscapes. I love the vibrant colours that Sterling uses in his paintings and I also find too that his landscapes have a lot of suggestion in place of detail which can be perfect for a beginner.
We went over some basics at the beginning of class where we talked about painting different types of winter trees and how to use washes to create the sunset and a suggestion of snow. And then they were given free rein to create their own landscapes!
Some chose winter and one was happier to be painting a warmer climate (I don’t blame her!) but all came through with incredibly outstanding work!
