My most recent painting from my Sketchbook Project series comes from my own pencil sketch from nearly ten years ago and my memory of times spent at Sugar Lake just outside of Parry Sound in Ontario.
I usually work from photographs so this is the first time I decided to work from my sketch alone. I find it’s funny how sketchbooks work as a trigger for your memory and I am able to immediately recall what it was like on the day it was originally sketched on location.
For this particular sketch, I remember sitting out on the dock with my pencil (and a coffee!) and sketching the trees and their reflections in the water that was so still and calm it reminded me of glass. A beautiful day on a small little lake in Northern Ontario.
At the time, it was a sketch that I had hoped I would paint one day and I’m glad I finally got a chance to.
