I had a really great time doing a Paint Night Style Workshop for a very special occasion this past week! The event was hosted by North BurLINKton for their monthly Single Mom’s group at Tansley United Church.
Although the group meets monthly for a dinner and some activities and a little time to themselves while their children play in the next room, this night was a special Art Night for them in honour of Mother’s Day. When one of the hostesses for the evening spoke at the beginning she said that being a Mom is one of the hardest jobs in the world and being a single Mom is even harder, so this night was an opportunity for them to sit back and relax and do a little art.
I showed them my demo for the evening and gave them some tips on how to get started but as with all classes I teach I also told them that I wanted them to express themselves with the materials provided and that if they felt like using different colours or even doing something completely different that that was their inspiration and creativity calling and they should listen and go for it!
It was a really fun evening, the women were all incredibly talented and many of them were happily surprized with what they came up. It was also so wonderful to see these hardworking Moms relaxing, enjoying and having fun painting!
Here are some samples of their work:
